Superintendent Message to the Community

Dear NLMUSD Community,

The past few days have been very difficult for communities across the nation. The tragic death of George Floyd and the events that followed have caused us to reflect on our roles as educators for equity, tolerance, and belonging.

At NLMUSD, our schools are places where we do more than educate students. Our schools foster a community of acceptance, empathy and kindness for others. We condemn acts of hate and violence and we stand in solidarity with NLMUSD African American students and staff. We will continue to work together and embrace our responsibility to create more inclusive and socially just environments for staff, students, and parents.

Our students, more than ever, need to feel safe and be heard. Please continue to listen, reassure, and affirm them. They give us hope for a better future.

We are the Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District Family, and we stand together. Let’s be mindful of the power of our actions to change the course of history for the betterment of all people.

Sincerely,

Hasmik Danielian, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Communication on Grading - COVID19

Dear NLMUSD Community,
As a reminder, all our schools will remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. This decision is in alignment with all public school districts in Los Angeles County.
Considering this pandemic and the limitations associated with distance learning, after consultation with our principals, teachers’ union, instructional leads, and district administration, we have decided to transition to a temporary grading policy for the second semester of 2019-2020. Please click on this article to read the full statement from Dr. Hasmik Danielian, Superintendent.

Coronavirus Parent letter

March 12, 2020
Dear Parents,
As we navigate the challenges presented by COVID-19 (Coronavirus), it is imperative that we
stay informed and calm. Please be advised that our District is taking additional steps to support
prevention through cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.
To date, we have NOT been informed by the Department of Public Health of any individuals (staff
or students) in our District who have tested positive for COVID-19. The California Department of
Public Health recommends the following:
x It is vital that parents keep their child home from school if he/she is sick with a fever and
cough until he/she is fever-free and feeling better. According to Public Health guidelines,
students should be fever-free for 72 hours without medication before returning to the
school site.
As we continue to closely monitor information and developments regarding COVID-19, the
Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District is taking the additional precautions below. Out of an
abundance of caution to further safeguard our students, staff, and campuses, we are temporarily
suspending all of the following activities through April 19, 2020, effective immediately:
x Open House events
x School Assemblies
x Theater and Choir Performances
x Band Performances
x All field trips, including out of state
x Athletic events
x Any other large gatherings as determined by each school or the District
We will continue to keep you updated via emails and the District website. Rest assured that we
are regularly engaging with public entities to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for
all.
Thank you so much for your continued support of our students and our school communities.
